Dental Checkups & Cleanings
Unless you have advanced gum disease or some other severe oral health concern that needs to be monitored particularly closely, a dental exam every six months is usually enough for us to screen for potential dental issues before they grow into severe problems. Additionally, Dr. Kerr or one of our hygienists can remove any plaque or tartar that has accumulated on your teeth so that you can head home with a brighter and cleaner smile.
Nightguards
for Bruxism
We may find signs that you’re grinding your teeth at night, such as enamel that has worn down much faster than it normally should have. Such grinding can also be the cause of persistent jaw pain. Fortunately, the solution is quite simple: you can wear a nightguard to protect your teeth and reduce the stress on your jaw joints. We will custom design these nightguards so that they fit comfortably in your mouth when worn and provide the best possible protection.
Fluoride Treatments
When teeth are more vulnerable to decay than usual, we might perform a fluoride treatment to strengthen the enamel. Fluoride helps neutralize the potentially harmful acids in your mouth and provides your teeth with extra protection against bacteria. While you likely get a healthy amount of fluoride while brushing your teeth or drinking public water, a professional treatment (which can be can completed very quickly during a routine visit) improves your smile’s defenses until your next appointment.
Oral Cancer Screenings
Every hour, one person in the United States dies of oral cancer. Over half of the people who are diagnosed with the disease will not live more than another five years. The best way to increase your odds of survival is to have oral cancer diagnosed as early as possible. We can screen for discolored patches and lumps as part of your normal checkup. Afterwards, we can arrange for a biopsy to be performed if there’s reason to think we might have found a warning sign of oral cancer.
